I have a manufacturing firm who is discharging about 7000gpd and I need to neutralize that water before it dumps into the stream. Dayton, OH
You won't need very much Vita-D-Chlor™ to do the job. Your idea of using the Nu-Calgon 1075 drip feeder is very good. You will want to make your VDC feed solution to a concentration of 1% or higher and preferably over 5%. This will greatly diminish the decomposition effect of the solution. You will also want to replace the feed solution about every 10-20 days to keep it fresh.

What is the difference between Vita-D-Chlor™ and Ascorbic Acid?
Vita-D-Chlor™ is Ascorbic Acid; however, Vita-D-Chlor™ is the only Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) available with NSF certification for dechlorinating water. You can feel confident that it will fully perform to the specifications as stated and that you will get consistent dechlorination results with its use. Vita-D-Chlor™ is packaged in plastic screw cap bottles and resealable plastic pails which are air-tight. This ensures that the quality of your investment is maintained down to the last gram.

We have given the product a name (Vita-D-Chlor™) that clearly identifies it for dechlorination purposes. This simplifies ordering and getting exactly what you need. Sometimes ordering unfamiliar materials with confusing chemical names can result in receiving the wrong material. This can cause lost time and money, as well as ineffective or even hazardous operations. Some chemical names are easily confused and may seem similar, yet are very different materials (Citric Acid, for example).

Vita-D-Chlor™ is the only Ascorbic Acid specifically for the dechlorination user. Every aspect of Vita-D-Chlor™, from the material, to the packaging, to our technical staff, has been developed to provide the best material and support for your needs.

How is Vita-D-Chlor™ used?
Vita-D-Chlor™ is available in three different forms depending on the intended usage.

Vita-D-Chlor™ is in an easy-dissolving fine granular form. This is dissolved in water to be fed into the chlorinated water stream.

Vita-D-Chlor™, Neutral is Sodium Ascorbate (a sodium compound of Vitamin C). This is also a fine granular form which is dissolved in water to be fed into the chlorinated water stream. It provides all the environmental benefits of Vita-D-Chlor™ but offers a buffering capacity to maintain pH levels when water being treated lacks that natural buffering quality.

Vita-D-Chlor™, Tablets are Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) in tablet form. They are 100% soluble and 100% organic. Tablets are 2-5/8 inch in diameter and weigh 4 oz. each. They are well-suited for chlorine neutralization in hydrant and line flushes of both municipal water and super-chlorinated water. Vita-D-Chlor tablets dissolve quickly and can thus accommodate the high volume of water over a short period of time. Tablets placed in a strong water stream last between three to five minutes.

4
Can I use Vita-D-Chlor™ with my existing diffuser/dechlorination equipment?
YES. Vita-D-Chlor™ has been tested with most of the dechlorination systems available. We can provide instructions on your specific application.

As a powder it is easily dissolvable and stays in solution, which can be applied with liquid dispensing systems (Venturi Devices). Vita-D-Chlor™ is also available as tablets designed to fit and provide efficient dechlorination action with existing equipment.

5
How do I calculate the amount of Vita-D-Chlor™ to use in my dechlorination devices or applications?
Integra Clear has developed formulas to meet various applications of Vita-D-Chlor™. Use the calculator links on our Web site, found on the left side of the calculation page.

6
Are there any hazards in using Vita-D-Chlor™?
Vita-D-Chlor™ (Ascorbic Acid) is a very safe, non-toxic and easy-to-handle material. It is a nutrient vital to life, but as with all materials, there are safe-handling recommendations. These include avoiding inhalation of the powder form when it is air-born, and avoiding contact with the skin. The Material Safety Data Sheet provides complete, detailed information on its safety.

7
Why haven't I heard about Vita-D-Chlor™ before now?
Vita-D-Chlor™ is a relatively new development of an existing and proven process utilizing Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C). Environmental analysis and evaluation is an evolving process. Treatment methods that previously appeared adequate have been shown to create some concerns, such as depleting oxygen levels in water. The Federal Clean Water Act (CWA) and Endangered Species Act (ESA) mandate that we carefully consider all the effects of treated water and wastewater.

Recently, because of these environmental concerns, Ascorbic Acid (Vita-D-Chlor™) dechlorination has received increased attention for treating water and wastewater being released to the environment. Vita-D-Chlor™ efficiently removes chlorine from the water, it does not reduce oxygen levels in the water, and it is a necessary nutrient for fish and other aquatic life.

The use of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) has a lengthy history. It has long been used in EPA and APHA methods for the dechlorination of laboratory samples. In the medical industry, it is the standard for critical applications, such as dialysis, where the introduction of chlorinated water or toxic chemicals would be catastrophic. Breeders of rare fish also choose this method of dechlorination.

8
What is Vita-D-Chlor™ and how is it different from other dechlorination methods?
Vita-D-Chlor™ is NSF-certified Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) for use in dechlorinating water. It is 100% organic, completely soluble, and provides a safe, rapid and complete method of neutralizing both chlorine and chloramines. Vita-D-Chlor™ benefits compared with other methods include:

- Vita-D-Chlor™ has a much faster reaction time than sulfur-based products. This fast reaction time results in accurate measurements of the neutralization process and thus excess chemical is not added.

- Vita-D-Chlor™ does not reduce water oxygen levels as do sulfur-based compounds.

- Vita-D-Chlor™ is an important nutrient for fish and other aquatic life.

Why should I switch from using my sulfite-based dechlorination chemicals to Vita-D-Chlor™?
  • Vita-D-Chlor™ (Ascorbic Acid/Vitamin C) dechlorination has been proven in the medical and analytical industries for many years as a safe, consistent method with little or no adverse effect on biological systems. It is, in fact, a required nutrient for nearly all life on earth. Sulfite-based chemicals have been shown to significantly reduce oxygen levels in water resulting in a high risk of fish and other aquatic life kill.

  • Vita-D-Chlor™ (Ascorbic Acid/Vitamin C) is more efficient at neutralizing chlorine and chloramines in water than sulfite-based products.

  • Vita-D-Chlor™ (Ascorbic Acid/Vitamin C) is easily adapted to existing dechlorination equipment and methods.

  • Vita-D-Chlor™ (Ascorbic Acid/Vitamin C) offers reduced hazards in handling and use.

  • Vita-D-Chlor™ provides a decreased liability for using a safe chemical and better public perception. The public may perceive it as better, but the fish will know it is better.
